Grindstone Falls

Date:Sunday April 27
Hike Leader:Carol Pyke
Distance:12km approx
Pace:Moderate
Difficulty:Level 2
Invitation: Meetup
Start at Trailhead:11:15am

This is the Bruce Trail just south of Waterdown, Map 9 in your Bruce Trail guide. The hike leader is describing this as a challenging twelve kilometre, level 2 hike. "Moderate" speed is three to four kilometres per hour.

Directions

From our meeting point at Yonge and York Mills...

  1. Drive west on Highway 401 to Highway 427 south.
  2. Take Highway 427 to the QEW. (This is called "kew" by my car's GPS.)
  3. Take the QEW west to Highway 403 west (Hamilton) to Highway 6 north.
  4. Go north on Highway 6 for approximately six kilometres, to the lights at Dundas Street.
  5. Turn right (west) onto Dundas Street and drive about 700 metres.
  6. Turn right into the plaza. This is 50-92 Dundas Street East. It has a Rona and a Walmart store.
  7. Drive south to the back of the plaza, between Staples and Rona, and then park. You should be right at the edge of the quarry to access the trail.

Here is a Google Maps link to 88 Dundas Street East, Dundas, Ontario L9H 7K6. This happens to be the address for Staples.

Remarks

The hike will take about three and a half hours, plus the lunch break. There are lots of hills. The plan is to hike east to Grindstone Falls. If conditions are wet, we may hike the opposite way.
